Garbiñe Muguruza, reciente finalista del Abierto de Australia, fue la encargada de darle la bienvenida nuevamente a Kim Clijsters al circuito WTA tras más de siete años alejada de las canchas. La victoria por 6-2 y 7-6 en la primera ronda del torneo Premier de Dubai fue anecdótica ya que el partido, donde Clijsters demostró estar en buen nivel, sirvió para ver en acción por primera vez desde 2012 a la ex N°1 del mundo y dueña de cuatro títulos de Grand Slam, quien a los 36 años, retornó por segunda vez del retiro, habiendo sido la primera vez en 2009.
